Archive for the ‘Submissions Guidelines’ CategoryMusic SubmissionsMonday, February 15th, 2010I set this page up solely for housing info on music submissions: music submission guidelines, a refresherMonday, August 31st, 2009I still get asked this daily, and some things are worth repeating…. The focus of Boston Emissions is to expose and support independent bands and artists of varying rock styles (not just what hipster d-bags think is cool) from Boston and New England. The show gets lots of music that comprises tall stacks, full bins and large files of which some bands are great, others okay, a fair amount are half-assed, and some just not airable. I (Anngelle Wood, that’s me) am the host of Boston Emissions and Local Music Director. I have fun finding music and putting together the playlist each week. It is time consuming. It’s a bad idea to hound anyone associated with the company to get played on the show. If you are good, if the audio quality and musicianship is there, if I like your band then you will eventually get played. It is safe to say that if I have not played your band that you will not be invited as a guest at this time. That does not mean that you will never be invited. Please be patient. Here are some basic requests for submitting music and getting airplay on Boston Emissions on WZLX… Please DO: DO: invest in a decent recording. Audio quality is very important. There are many great studios/producers in our area. If you need some assistance finding one, email me. DO: send UNWRAPPED CD with proper track listing in a clearly identifiable jewel case or a professional type cover. Make it as easy as possible for me to get to the music and identify it or I have to move on. I lose stuff all the time, especially this skinny cd sleeves. DO: include some band info (one sheets only. no press kit. save a tree or several trees judging by some). DO: include direct band contact info. DO: identify which songs are clean (kick ass songs laced with shit and fuck equals no dice)! Edits are great and your cred remains intact. DO: come see me at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Social the second Tues of every single month at the Model Cafe in Allston from 7-10pm. I make myself available to talk with bands and collect music in person. I’ll never hide from you. Please DO NOT: DO NOT: email asking to be in THE Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble. Ever. Bands who receive airplay by Anngelle are considered but simply existing as a band is not enough. Bands are selected. Period. Refresher on this topic: the Rumble is a 30+ year Boston music tradition. It is a blast. Bands have a great time, play to lots of people, get their picture in the paper, get press, and get paid! There is no way to apply for the Rumble, no one ever pays to play the Rumble. DO NOT: email mp3s or large files to wzlx email account. They will immediately be deleted. It just cannot hack it. DO NOT: send me to your web page or myspace to listen to your music. If you want to be played on the show, just send your music. DO NOT: send emails hounding me. Harassment gets you nowhere. And I will not respond to you. DO NOT: come to the radio station during the show. Uninvited guests will not get in. Anngelle Wood Boston Emissions’ submission guidelines, same drill!Saturday, July 25th, 2009Show moves to WZLX in August but same submission guidelines apply. I will program the show the same way it has been since I began. Some things are worth repeating…. The show gets lots of music that comprises tall stacks, full bins and large files of which some bands are great, others okay, a fair amount are half-assed, and some just not ready for air. At new home on WZLX, these standards still apply! I (Anngelle Wood, that’s me) am the host of Boston Emissions and Local Music Director. Anngelle Wood A “how to” in getting played on Boston EmissionsMonday, May 11th, 2009The focus of Boston Emissions is to support independent bands and artists of I (Anngelle Wood, that’s me) am host of Boston Emissions and Local Music Director at WBCN. Anngelle Wood mp3s & a lesson in bad wordsMonday, May 11th, 2009I will accept CLEAN mp3s at bostonemissions@yahoo.com only. Please include some brief band info - contact info / where you are from / names of band members / what other bands you’ve been in / how recent the song is. Save the name-dropping. It does not impress me or make me want to play you. I’m not concerned with who has played you or booked you. So if you never want anyone to ever play your songs on the radio, write one with a line that goes something like, “fuck shit damn piss cunt cock pussy whore” and you’ll be massively successful at your mission. It’s not a bad idea to follow up by sending disc and band one sheet to my attention. Boston Emissions with Anngelle Wood Mp3s for Local Music JukeboxWednesday, May 6th, 2009Bands, you can send mp3s for McGreevy’s Local Music Jukebox to bostonemissions at yahoo.com (email is for mp3s only, I do not use this for anything else);
Please remember though that receiving airplay on BE requires sending a clearly marked cd in jewel case with track listing and band one sheet per submission instructions here. Please read them.
